‘Andrea Chénier’ at ABAO Bilbao Opera
Michael Fabiano returns to ABAO Bilbao Opera, singing the title role in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. Fabiano has been a regular guest of the opera house since his debut there as Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in 2011, singing the title role in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon. He will return in the 2026/27 season as Des Griex in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.
Of his role debut as Andrea Chénier at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2025, Fabiano was praised for “unleashing the bear-like power of his rich tenor voice without interruption . . . together [with Sonya Yoncheva] their concentrated sonic power seemed capable of defying even death” (Der Standard).
Under the baton of Guillermo García Calvo, Fabiano is joined by a wonderful cast, including Saioa Hernández as Maddalena di Coigny, Juan Jesús Rodríguez as Carlo Gérard, Elisabetta Fiorillo as La Contessa di Coigny / Madelon, Yeta Pilipenko as Bersi, Gabriel Alonso as Roucher, Jorge Rodríguez-Norton as the Abbé, Fernando Latorre as Mathieu, José Manuel Díaz as Fléville / Fouquier-Tinville, and Gexan Etxabe as Schmidt / Dumas.
