Role debut in ‘La Gioconda’ at Gran Teatre del Liceu

This February and March, Michael Fabiano returns to Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, making an exciting role debut as Enzo Grimaldo in Amilcare Ponchielli’s romantic tragedy, La Gioconda. One of the Italian repertoire’s grandest operas, La Gioconda tells the story of a street singer who sacrifices her love for the nobleman Enzo to save her mother and her romantic rival, Laura, from the evil spy Barnaba.

La Gioconda marks a happy return to the Gran Teatre for Fabiano, who debuted there in 2021 as part of their 175th anniversary concert and has subsequently bowed there in productions of Tosca, Manon, and Turandot.  He joins an exceptional cast in Romain Gilbert’s production, under the baton of Daniel Oren. Saioa Hernández sings the title role, with Ksenia Dudnikova as Laura Adorno, Violeta Urmana as La Cieca, Gabriele Viviani as Barnaba, and John Relyea as Alvise Badoero.

The production is double cast; Fabiano appears on February 17, 20, 23, 26, and March 1.
