‘Carmen’ at The Metropolitan Opera

Michael Fabiano begins 2026 with a signature role, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen. He will return to The Metropolitan Opera, appearing again in Carrie Cracknell’s daring production after a successful run earlier this season. That performance earned him rave reviews, with Operawire praising his “cathartic,” “wild-eyed” and “unnerving and ravenous” interpretation.

In addition to his performances at The Met, Fabiano brought his acclaimed portrayal of this iconic role to the stages of the world’s greatest opera houses, including Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Wiener Staatsoper, La Monnaie, Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera, and more.

Fabiano will join an all-star cast, singing under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi. Aigul Akhmetshina sings the title role, with Janai Brugger as Micaëla, and Christian Van Horn as Escamillo.

Fabiano will appear as Don José on January 11, 14, 17, 20, and 23. The January 17 performance of Carmen will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on the SiriusXM app and over The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.
