Role debut in Boito’s ‘Mefistofele’ at the Met

Marking his first role debut for the 2018-2019 season, Michael Fabiano returns to the Metropolitan Opera to star as Faust in Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele. Completed in 1867 and Boito’s only completed opera, he was primarily known for being Verdi’s librettist for Falstaff and Otello.

The New York Times described the opera as “a mixture of self-confidence and uncertainty, but its white-hot Italian heart never cools,” this production by Robert Carsen was last seen at the house in 2000. Running from November 8 through December 1, Carlo Rizzi and Joseph Colaneri lead the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus. The star-studded cast includes 2018 Richard Tucker award-winner Christian van Horn as the title character, Angela Meade as Margherita, and Jennifer Check as Helen of Troy.
