‘Carmen’ at The Metropolitan Opera
This fall, Michael Fabiano brings his “spine-chilling” and “primal” (New York Classical Review) interpretation of Don José in Bizet’s Carmen back to The Metropolitan Opera. It’s a role Fabiano has sung to great acclaim all over the world, including Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Wiener Staatsoper, La Monnaie, Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera, and more.
Fabiano has received high praise for his performances of this iconic role, with Operawire saying, “Fabiano’s command of the role was captivating, a tour de force of phenomenal singing informed by deep psychological and dramatic understanding.” Of his 2024 performances of the role at The Met, Bachtrack gave a rave review, saying “His ardent, burnished tenor was thrilling at full throttle and he sounded properly dangerous in the Act 3 finale, but even more impressive was the nuance and delicacy he brought to his duet with Micaëla and his aria which he capped with a spectacular diminuendo B flat.”
Fabiano joins an all-star cast in Carrie Cracknell’s production, under the baton of Fabien Gabel. Isabel Leonard sings the title role, with Kristina Mkhitaryan as Micaëla and Adam Plachetka as Escamillo. Fabiano will perform the role on October 28 and November 1, 5, and 7.
