‘Andrea Chénier’ at the Wiener Staatsoper
On April 8, 12, and 15, Michael Fabiano returns to the Wiener Staatsoper, making a much-anticipated role debut as the title role in Umberto Giordano’s verismo masterpiece, Andrea Chénier. Fabiano is a regular at the Wiener Staatsoper, having previously appeared there in Puccini’s Turandot and Tosca, as well as Bizet’s Carmen. Of his 2023 performance there in Tosca, Bachtrack said, “Any world-class opera company would welcome Michael Fabiano’s Cavaradossi with open arms – and they do, from London to Vienna to New York – and he gave everything to the role and to the audience, from the unfettered ardency of his “Recondita armonia” to a frisson of spine-tingling vulnerability in “E lucevan le stelle”.
Fabiano joins a spectacular cast, including Sonya Yoncheva as Maddalena di Coigny, Luca Salsi as Carlo Gérard, and Daria Sushkova as Bersi. Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts Otto Schenk’s legendary 1981 production.
