‘Carmen’ in Santa Fe
This August, Michael Fabiano returns to Santa Fe Opera as Don José in Georges Bizet’s Carmen. A favorite of the esteemed summer festival, Mr. Fabiano was previously an Apprentice Artist with the company in 2005 and made his SFO debut as Alfredo Germont in the 2013 production of La traviata.
Mariame Clément’s new staging of the tragedy is set in a desolate theme park as to represent “a mental landscape for Carmen, or a metaphor of her life.” Julia Hansen brings Clément’s vision to life with her arresting set and costume designs. Under the baton of renowned conductor Harry Bicket, this gifted cast will also feature Isabel Leonard as Carmen, Michael Sumuel as Escamillo, Sylvia D’Eramo as Micaëla, David Crawford as Zuniga, Luke Sutliff as Dancaïre, Anthony León as Remendado, Darren Lekeith Drone as Moralès, Kathleen Felty as Mercédès and Magdalena Kuzma as Frasquita.
Performances take place on August 2, 8, 13, 17 and 27.
