Debut at Lyric Opera of Chicago in Puccini’s ‘La bohème’
This season Michael Fabiano makes his debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème. This new co-production by Richard Jones was recently introduced last season at the Royal Opera House where Fabiano starred as Rodolfo. Very much a signature role for Fabiano, his portrayal of the love-stricken poet at the Met was heralded by The Observer:
“The most exciting of all these performers…was tenor Michael Fabiano as the jealous poet Rodolfo. While there is great beauty in his basic timbre, particularly in the middle octave of the voice, his real forte is his ideal mastery of Italianate style….Fabiano’s aggressive attack reminds us that Puccini’s roots were in verismo, realism. He finds in Rodolfo a core of anger and desperation that seems to cry out against social injustice.”
Fabiano takes the Lyric Opera stage from October 6 through 20. Domingo Hindoyan conducts this sparkling cast, including Maria Agresta as Mimì, Danielle de Niese as Musetta, Zachary Nelson as Marcello, Ricardo José Rivera as Schaunard, and Adrian Sâmpetrean as Colline.
